2. History

2.1  The Brixton Village Artist

The Brixton Village Artist sold small art works, for £3 to £5 each. Working with the same available materials found in local stationary shops: glitter paint, felt pens and glitter tape on cardboard – creating remarkable images of hearts, fruits, vegetables and animals.
She also played the comb harmonica outside Iceland, to supplement her living. Apparently she lived for sometime in a hostel in Norbury, and used A C Contintental (Portugese Café on corner of Atlantic and Brixton Road) as a place to display her unique ‘unsigned’ works!

2.2   Artist - Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre

“During a working week, I operated a mobile stall around Brixton Market, offering to write complaint letters for anyone who wanted or needed on, free of charge. I wrote over 20 customized complaint letters covering issues as varied as housing, litter, parking meters, public toilets, street preachers and pricing and measures used at a large supermarket chain. All letters were posted to the relevant person and department, and all the exchanges with people in the street (that didn’t end up with a complain letter) were documented in a written diary.” //lopezdelatorre.org/2000/06/18/complain-for-you-for-free/
